You Are Enough by Dreph

Ghanaian artist Dreph has produced a series of stunning murals which appear throughout Croydon and across South and East London. The Croydon graffiti project celebrates inspirational black women and also promotes the empowerment of females. The striking murals feature photorealistic portraits of the artist’s friends, family and also their associates. The pictures showcase the great work these women do in the community.

You Are Enough by Dreph
The project is called You Are Enough. It presents black women from all walks of life. The defining characteristics of each woman, from style to empathy, are perfectly captured in the beautiful spray-painted portraits.

In this particular image, the subject is Mel. “She is a beautiful soul whose spirit lights up any room,” says the artist himself. Mel is a community worker and she is very active in the local cultural scene. Her kindness and compassion are evident in the portrait, which presents Mel as a thoughtful and calm influence.

You can see the work for yourself by visiting Croydon. The portrait appears on St. Georges Walk in Croydon, in postcode district CR0. Find other portraits from the series across South and East London districts. From Brixton to Penge, the You Are Enough project has now spread across several different London communities.

Croydon’s diverse community
Croydon is one of London’s most multicultural areas. This small section of the capital city represents many different nations and cultures. Local artists such as Dreph aim to capture the spirit of this community and represent it in street art. Everyone can enjoy graffiti: that is its beauty. It is not locked away in a gallery, and there is no charge to see it. The whole community can celebrate the artwork, and also the women represented by it.
